This weekend could mark Chase Elliott’s last chance to claim his fourth victory of the 2021 racing season.

Elliott will be competing in a Nitro Rallycross event to be held in North Florida, on a rallycross track located southwest of the Jacksonville area.

Nitro Rallycross – a series founded by Travis Pastrana after the demise of several different rally series in the United States – consists of drivers who race on largely dirt tracks, navigating jumps and turns.

It seems like the perfect formula for Elliott to excel as he is a road racing ace. And for the past two years, he’s tried his hand at oval track racing.

Kyle Busch competed in a recent Nitro Rallycross event in Utah and came home just behind Pastrana. Although he faces some stiff competition this weekend – including Rallycross stars Pastrna, Scott Speed and Steve Arpin – I predict Elliott will take his fourth race victory of the year.

He was once celebrated on the way to victory in the NASCAR Cup Series road races in Austin, TX, and Elk Hart Lake, Wisc. Elliott also scored a high-profile victory in the Superstar Racing Experience event held at the legendary short track Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

The Rallycross event is scheduled to air Sunday afternoon on the Peacock Premium online service.

This weekend also marks another big racing event in Florida, in which Elliott has already won the trophy.

The annual Snowball Derby for recent stock car models will be contested at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola.

Elliott won the Snowball Derby in 2011 and 2015. Other winners in the race – which dates back to 1968 – include Pete Hamilton, Donnie Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Ted Musgrave, Rich Bickle, Kyle Busch, John Hunter Nemecheck and Noah Gragson. . This list also includes two women, Tammy Jo Kirk in 1994 and Johanna Long in 2010.

Ty Majeski, a Wisconsin short track superstar who has competed in the NASCAR and Xfinity series for the past two years, won last year’s race. He is one of the drivers entered this year.

The entry list also includes: NASCAR Cup Series drivers Erik Jones and Ryan Preece; Chase Purdy, Derek Kraus and Grant Enfinger, NASCAR truck competitors; and two-time NASCAR / ARCA West champion Jesse Love.

Jones won the Snowball Derby two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. His performances in the 2012 race, in which he beat Kyle Busch to the finish line, caught the attention of Busch and the ‘led to Jones hiring to drive for his truck crew. .

As Jones attests, a solid run from a little-known driver in the Snowball Derby could lead to a deal with a top racing team.

This weekend also marks the penultimate Formula 1 race of the season. Max Verstappen and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton are engaged in a close battle for the championship ahead of the first race of the series which will take place in the streets of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

If Hamilton wins on Sunday and Verstappen finishes second with the fastest lap in the race, they will be level on points heading into the season finale next weekend in Abu Dhabi.

If Verstappen gets ahead of Hamilton on Sunday, he could clinch his first championship in the series.
